My cat has always like to sit on top of things but it is usually not my computer keyboard, stereo, dining room table and counters. In the last month, that all she does. She sits on top of my computer keyboard. On top of my stereo, on top of my table and counters(NASTY, NASTY - Got to stop - can't stand this or the counters). What is the best way to stop her from doing this?

Cats are naturally drawn to high places. There are a couple of things you can do. Buy a cat tree, or a window shelf that they make for cats, for here to climb up on. That will give her a perch to sit up high. You can buy the carpet runners with the little pointy ends on the bottom, cut them in small pieces to cover the area you don't want the cat to get on. Place these, upside down, on the counters, etc. when you are not around. When you are home, use a spray bottle with water, or a can full of pennies, to startle her when you catch her in a "forbidden" spot. The important thing is to give her some places up high that she is allowed to use. Have patience, and good luck!

I've had a cat like this before. The quickest way I found that works is just to carry around a spray bottle with water in it. Cat's generally hate to get wet, so this should discourage the cat quickly.

When she gets in a spot you don't want her on, look her in the eye and speak to her very firmly saying "NO" and "Get Off" then hiss at her. Do all this looking her straight in the eyes. You never need to scream or hit a cat for them to learn. In a short time just looking sternly at a cat will make her remove herself. Cats learn very fast and I have never had problems with then doing what I do not want.

Hmm, I used a squirt gun filled w/ water & when my cat was on something she wasn't supposed to be on, I squirted her. This might present a problem on your computer or stereo, however. Another thing my cat was scared of was plastic bags & the noise they made; maybe a noise your cat doesn't like would deter it.

get a spray bottle of water and every time they get up where they are not to be spray them. They will finally get the hint that they will get sprayed if they go there.
