He has had hearing tests done but the doctors are very vague with their answers.
I would love to know if anyone can suggest what might be wrong.

Are the doctors vague because they don't know what is wrong? I think that must be it because I think they would tell you. I am very hearing impaired and I wear hearing aids and I don't always wear them but when I do it does help. I couldn't of imagined how I would of gotten through school with out my hearing aids. I guess that is where I'm leading up to with you. If your sons hearing doesn't improve the doctors really need to find out what is wrong because he may need hearing aids for school. Which doctors have you been too? An audiologist? I'm going to do some research and try to look at what may be wrong (that's if you don't resolve the question before I find out).
I looked up some sites and one in particular was interesting
http://www.ehealthmd.com/library/hearingloss/HL_types.html
This site has info on different kinds of hearing loss but also other types of hearing loss that may not be caused from bad ears. Other sites I came across were
http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/health_problems/sight/hearing_impairment.html
http://www.cyh.com/HealthTopic/HealthTopicdetails.aspx?p=114&np=306&id=1878
I hope this helps and I hope the doctors can find out the cause of your sons problem. Best Wishes to you and your son.

try callling him from behind if he doesnt react he might have a hearing problem also look for signs of lip reading. when i was around that age i was partically deaf in 1 ear after hearing tests and stuff i had my tonsils removed n a bone twisted in my ear im fine now
take him to a diffrent doctor if u can if the doctors dnt detect anythin he mite jus have selective hearing which i doubt as he is so young

I've heard of one guy, Howard Stern's assistant....who had trouble hearing and when he went to the doctor, they found out it was some weird buildup of wax...like the size of a quarter.

Expect him to get better. Just make sure he's smiling a lot.

Good Luck.

Press those doctors for answers. And if they refuse to give them, find someone who will.

The boy could be hard of hearing, or he could be ignoring you or otherwise distracted.
