002.246 Hast thou not turned thy vision to the Chiefs of the Children of Israel after (the time of) Moses? They said to a prophet (That was) among them: "Appoint for us a King, that we May fight in the cause of God." He said: "Is it not possible, if ye were commanded to fight, that ye will not fight?" They said: "How could we refuse to fight in the cause of God, seeing that we were turned out of our homes and our families?" But when they were commanded to fight, they turned back, except a small band among them. But God has full knowledge of those who do wrong.

(QURAN)

-Isn't that "Jihad" or what ?

That is one form of Jihad, that of freeing yourself from oppression. However there are other forms of Jihad, such as against oneself, fighting poverty etc.

Not necessarily.
In the Bible too, are many places where people are admonished to fight. Christ spoke of a time when people would need to pick up their swords.

You can't take a single verse, or even a group of verses, and characterize all those who believe in the text they came from as evil.

I once spoke to a muslim man who told me that true Jihad was the war within oneself, and not an external fight. I guess, that Islam, as Christianity, is not defined by a single interpretation of a book.

The prophet alluded to is SAMUEL.
Refer 1 Samuel 8: 19 & 20.
The Quran does not show any important difference with the Bible narrative.

***This is a comment for the idiot who misquoted Luke 19:27... It's people like you that aid in the confusion of the world.

This verse was part of a parable that Jesus was telling people to teach them a lesson on using the things that are given to them by God. That verse was the (parable) King's statement to represent that judgement will fall on those who fail to act with the gifts that God gives them (hospitality, teaching, singing, preaching the word). He is not ordering people to kill others. That's absurb and wouldn't make since if God is to have the final say so over man. He wouldn't pass final judgement over man via other man. The middle man would have to be held accountable for taking another life.
Not to mention the fact that murder is prohibited via the 10 Commandments. Think of this, why didn't Jesus kill those who refused to follow him right then and there? Instead he died for them. We are to be like God. Jesus was God in flesh, and being like Jesus would be closest way to resembling God. So, why can't we be Christ-like?

Jihad is not what they're talking about. Jihad is something else. That verse is talking about protecting the home and family in God's name -- not killing innocent people. Jihad is the stuggle within ones self.

I should rewrite the bible to say what i want it to, then photocopy it and preach it to stupid people. Then i can tell everyone i've brainwashed that the people i don't like are the followers of the devil and they need to be slain to cleanse the earth. Bible thumpers are very weak minded.

It is self explainatory... I guess it just speaks to everyone differently. What does it say to you and ask God to open your eyes if it is in his will.
