I don't know that you necessarily can... everyone is usually sad when their life is ending... and since everbody makes mistakes, it is almost impossible to die without some regrets.
Do your best and accept the rest as human... that's about as good as it gets...

There was a wonderful quotation in a book I read: "We go from where we stand. We answer for our own evil, and we leave the rest to God."
I think that if we do good whenever we can, do no harm if it can be avoided, preach no hatred or contention, and take responsibility for the mistakes we make and try to remedy them, then that is as good a life as you can expect to lead.

Nobody can make sure. Since we are ignorant and weak, so we sin constantly. The difference is based on repententance. If I repent every day until the last minute, that is good; if I indulge in sins as a natural thing, that is bad. Yes, our last repentant breath is our smile.

Who have you known that has died smiling?
Anways, I believe that if I make the most of my life and not waste it on religion, I will have a better and more fullfilling life. And then, when my life "flashes before my eyes" upon my death bed, I'll know that I was a good person and I led a good life.

Do what you think is best. At least that way when you look back you can say that you always did what you thought was best.
If you make the best choice with the information you have then you did not make any mistakes.

Bend Your subjective views of reality to provide You with a vantage that allows for the point of view that Your life has been lead in the fashion that You wished it to be perceived. Simple eh, but simple works best.

Accept the fact that, if you accept the payment made by Jesus Christ, you will get what you don't deserve. You will get the gift of forgiveness, even though you did nothing to deserve it. That puts a smile on my face always.

Well, there is no guarantee you will die fulfilled. Just be a critical thinker and make calculated, rational decisions based on logic not emotion, and you will probably be fine. But there is no guarantee.
