I was raised a Catholic too. Thats good that your wife studied other religions. Scientology has just been the most useful to me. I have been able to effectively help others more. I find Scientology similar in many ways to Buddhism. What is Pat...the other one you mentioned?

My wife went to Catholic school and studied all kinds of religions, so what's your point. I've studied Buddhism, Hinduism, and Pantheism. I know much about Christianity because I was raised one. But Scientology? LOL.

Yeah, so? Christian pastors also study the teachings of other cults...er, "religions".

You do know you're in a cult, right?

As for me, I've studied zen buddhism, islam, catholicism until I found the Truth that set me free: Jesus Christ!

If you mean a chaplain in the sense of hospital or military work, that goes without saying. Also, many ministers in many faiths study the faiths of others as part of their training. It helps to build a dialog between various religons.

If you are to minister in a hospital, nursing home, funeral home or other place, it always helps to have an understaning of other faiths, as helping only those of your own faith, to me, seems a bit self serving.

Most schools and seminaries which teach ministers do have them study other religions. If you do not know what they teach, it becomes difficult to answers questions about them. Or to be able to defend your belief against them.

Sure, knowing their religion allows you to use it to point to yours or to know where to find a chink in their beliefs.

That makes the fact that they buy into that crap, after studying all the other crap, all the more ironic.
