If you're looking for a relaxing haven away from city life I'd definitely recommend Cornwall. With over 150 beaches to explore and beautiful surroundings you will never want to go home! However, if you are seeking an exciting break in the city away from the country, I'd either recommend London for the fast exuberant lifestyle..or perhaps a more quieter location such as Bath or Oxford.

Hi!
I love St Ives in Cornwall!!
We stay at a place called Carbis Bay. We stay in an apartment called 'The Penthouse'. It is luxurious, spacious and has everything you'll ever need.
We get cheap breaks through www.carbisbayholidays.co.uk.
If you click on Logans Court in the top left hand corner. Then click on 'The Penthouse' you will see their 2007 prices and they always have special offers on.
The view of the sea from the balcony is AWESOME.
We sit out there at night with our 'drinkies' and watch the ships go by!!
OMG!! I feel a 'booking' coming on.
Best of luck with your search!

i think that it all depends on what area your from as you don't want to travel too far for your short break.
i love London but it can be pricey, Manchester is supposed to be grate i love Scotland so I'd also say Edinburgh as well.
it all depends on what you want for a mini break personally I'd like something near the coast such as eastbourne or Brighton

Cornwall or Devon, but ask yourself this......We are now connected to Europe via the tunnel, why have a 30 minute link to Europe & not use it?.Take your Mrs to Amsterdam & party hard.
