I recently got with someone and we have connected in a way you only read about , problem is he just broke up with someone he had been with for 7 years. They were on a break cause they just couldnt give up the comfort they had , which was a friendship nothing romantic or relationship like at all. Well a couple days ago he told me he felt horrible cause he didnt feel lik eh could give me his whole heart yet cause a piece was still hers and that I needed to give him time to get over the feelings he still had, which he said were nothing other than the closeness of 7 years. This came after she kept calling and making him feel horrible and bad that he was happy. He asked for time to get over his feelings so he could give me 100% but he wants to stay in our relationship , just slow down a bit. I guess I am just wondering .. how long do you give someone to get over a person ?

From what you describe to be, now he has the best of both worlds: a sexual relationship (you), and the long-term "best friend" (her). He won't be giving up both so easily. If he wanted a relationship with you, he'd be with you and put her out of your relationship. Besides, there is no time-line of forgetting over someone, for some people it may take years. Give his space as he is asking for, find yourself someone else, it's his loss. At this time you are basically just the "other". Best wishes.

If a person is willing to get in another relationship it means they are over an ex. I would give them 2-3 months if the prior relationship was long term, and a few weeks if prior relationship was a short one.

My fiance's last relationship ended in July, and by August he started dating me, so he got over here quickly. Actually come to think about it, he always had new girlfriends within weeks of a break up. When he was married to his first wife he was corresponding with a woman online, and left his wife for her, so when he finds a newer, better model, he trades the olds one in. I am not worried because he is 46 and I am 26 so how much newer and better can he get than me.

He and her never broke up, they just took a break. He had no intentions of getting over her. My advice to you would be to make other friends, and if later on you see that he and his ex girlfriend really broke up then you may want to consider starting up a relationship with him. Until then, do not wait for him to get over her cause he is with her. He only wants to hold on to you in case things do not work out with her. I am afraid that you will only be second choice to her. This will only cause you pain and heartache so let him be. If he were really trying to get over her, then he would not have gone back to her. It is obvious he and his ex girlfriend are not over with each other yet. Think of what is best for you, once you do, you will see that he is not what is best for you. Best of luck to you!

Some you never get over. In your heart forever. The only way you forget them is if they really, really hurt you. Other than that, living in seperate states helps.

As long as it takes... However, it sounds like she's trying to drive a wedge between the two of you. That you should put a stop to.

However long it takes. You're a rebound. You're going to get yourself hurt if you don't stop living in a fantasy world.
