I haven't seen much of my parents over the years, as they are both incorregible theives. They spend their lives in and out of prison because they'll poinch anything that isn't bolted down.

On a recent family function, I had the rare opportunity to be in the same room as both of them for the first time since I was nine and it dawned on me that I don't seem to share any physical attributes with either of them, or any of my other family members for that matter. Furthermore, I have always been quite honest, which is strange given that theft provided pretty much everything I was given as a child and I knew no other way except what I learned in school.

I asked "gran" about this, because everybody else was carted off by parole or prison officers before too long, and she admitted I had been adopted. However, nobody knows where any of the paperwork is.

Given the fact that my "family" is a bunch of kleptomaniacs, is it possible that they quite simply stole me? How can I find out?

Just accept the 'adopted' explanation. It is most likely true. With some thinking and some talking and investigation, I'm sure you could find out how and when it happened that you were adopted.
Kidnaping may be a very very remote possiblity but you can put your mind to rest by going to the police and telling them that you always wondered about that. Perhaps they would require you to submit a DNA sample. Would you feel comfortable with that (it's painless). The thing is, if someone is kidnaped, that this such a serious crime that it is unlikely you would survive this long undiscovered. But it's worth a try, for your peace of mind, to go the DNA route.

I firmly believe I was kidnapped or taken mistakenly away from the hospital as a baby. I was never meant for a life of toil, I should be eating the best meals in top restaurants, and wearing fancy clothes, instead I've had to work hard all of my life, eat what was thrown onto the table and dress in my older sisters hand me downs. Not good when you are a boy and the other children take the pee out of you at school... What can be done about it at this late date

Interesting. If indeed you were kidnapped it means your real parents are somewhere out there - probably still looking for you.
First, don't tell your family what you're doing (if they are kidnappers, then they will try to stop you.)
My advice is to begin with the newspapers. Most libraries have old newspapers on micro-film for patrons to view. Go back to the dates when you were an infant and just start checking through them for any missing or kidnapped children.
Also, go down to the police station and ask them if it would be possible to see any police reports dating from that era.
The search will take time, but may be rewarding.

Wow, your amasing to still sond sane. I would contact the adoption agency to put a trace on it. They should be able to shed some light on it. You should definately have a birth certificate as you will need this if you get married in the years to come.

I hope that you find your true family and hope you have some peace in your life. Remember you can choose your friends but you can't choose your family! So what ever the outcome be ready for it. Best of Luck xx

Contact a private investigator and have them run a search on you from birth to present... if there are any missing documents etc.. take that info to the federal authorities and have them start an investigation. Good Luck.

You must have been registered at birth so check with your local council offices see if they can point you in the right direction of your registry offices. I don't know exactly where you should look, I found the below site which may help (I haven't read through it so not sure).

Your parents names are on your Birth Certificate, if you don't have one, get one. Start with that.
Just because your "parents" are the way you are doesn't meant you have to be anything like them.
Good Luck
