The comment should be seen in the context of the fact that he had a debilitating form of multiple sclerosis so his quality of life was poor. Happiness and life can be the same thing but only if you make a choice to live your life in the right way.

Yes. Happiness is an emotion. Life is a condition. Emotions aren't as real as life.
