Light because the buddha is called dispeller of darkness. incence because its sweet smell spread into all corners of life.
flowers as areminder of buddha's teaching about how life grows and then fades like a flower. nothing last forever.

These are only story. Budha told story to reflect a fact of meaning according to the people who need this story to help. It is like the medicine for different kind of people useing different kind of medicine. Even it is good to one but not other.
