When I am almost deaf? I'm still (fairly) young, tall and not too bad to look at. But my confidence has gone, along with my hearing. How can I approach a girl and talk to her when I can't hear her replies? Unless she shouts - something tells me that asking her to shout at me wouldn't make a particularly good first impression.

My hearing loss is due to a series of ear infections; I have had partial hearing for about 18 months, it was okay before that.

Insights and advice would be welcome from guys who have a similar hearing problem (or even if you don't).

Also girls, what do you think?

It's not as if I haven't tried - there was this one girl, working in the bar I go to. When I asked her out, she all but laughed at me.

I know that all girls aren't like this, but knowing it and believing it are 2 different things - especially as almost every relationship I've had turned out badly.

if it were me, all u would have to do is explain it to me and i wouldnt think anything else about it. i work with adults with disabilities, and i know a bit of sign language...its not a big deal to ME.

hey...
every girl(wel most girls) like a guy who'll make the 1st move...
Just because you have a hearing problem doesnt mean you can't be the same person you were before this happend
this may be a pathetic thing 2 say but like Incubus said 'Don't let the world bring you down, not every1 here is that f***ed up and cold remember why you came and while you're alive to experience the warmth before you grow old'
Remember... there is always a girl for every guy no matter what... hey she may even be right around the corner...
Be confident... after all you are stil the same guy that maybe 100girls were after... Don't let this 1 thing bring you down :)

I think it wouldn't be a problem for me if a guy had a problem like this. Maybe if there is a girl that you like you can find a way to let her know you are into her like have a friend tell her. A really nice girl will not judge you. If she does judge you.... you don't need her.
Good luck.

just get to know some and have some close girl friends. tell them that they you are partially deaf and they could care for you more or whisper in your ear (which tickles)

well my friend was kind of like this. he got a hearing-aid because he had problems hearing. everything seemed better for him .
