I've seen the scripture that says its a sin in the old testament. But most christians don't follow the ways of the OT anymore. So if homosexuality isn't a sin in the NT, then why are christians still against it?

luckiistar: Most don't follow the OT anymore because its outdated. The things practiced in those days wouldn't go over very well in our day. For instance, stoning people to death, and whatnot.

Christ never said anything about homosexuality. Paul, however, did. While I am an atheist, I was a Christian for many years. Some churches, for instance the Episcopal Church and the United Church of Christ, sanction homosexuality. Others don't. As I read the New Testament, I find quotes that appear to say that the "old laws" need no longer be followed. Conversely, some scripture appears to support following the old laws as presented in the first five books of the Old Testament. My conclusion is that Christians have a tendency to cherry pick the Jewish laws depending on what they want to believe. Historically, the Christian religion has rarely been on the forefront of social reform. For instance, during the Civil War the Baptist ministers of the South preached that slavery should not be abolished since Christ himself tells slaves to honor their slave masters. No minister would preach that today nor admit that they were that socially backward during the the Civil War. Many ministers also preached about the evil of mixed marriage. Unfortunately, most religions must be dragged kicking and screaming into modernity and social justice. I consider it a a travesty myself. You have a good day!

The Scripture is Rom 1:26,27 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their woman exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving the penalty of their error which was due. Homosexuality is a sin and the Old Covenant dealing with matters relating to actions between man and man is still relevant for sin is in the flesh and someone who sins is not 'in Jesus'. When a Christian sins he has fallen out of grace and subject himself to the curse(judgment) of the law. The New Covenant applies only those who are 'in Jesus' and not to those who sin.

Romans 1:24-27 makes it clear that homosexuality is a sin.

Yes, the New Testament does teach it is wrong.
Jesus, while never speaking about it, declares the purpose of marriage is a man and a woman joining to become one and this was God's plan from the beginning.

The Bible does say, " Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God." 1 Cor 6:9-10.

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5:19-21.

Just because we are not in the Old Testament now, it doesn't mean God has changed, he has changed the way he deals with people, He hasn't changed Himself. So Homosexuality is still sin and God hates it The first scripture quoted 1 Cor 6:9-10. the words "abusers of themselves with mankind." That is talking about homosexuality or check out the way the New King James version puts it: Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites,
nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
so yes it is still a sin, in which that person needs a Saviour named Jesus to deliever him or her. It's not natural it's perversion, it's inner slavery, they need to here the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Also every one of us needs to hear the gospel and to be saved.

Just because we are not in the Old Testament now it doesn't mean we can do what we want. Because we are yeilding ourselves to satan if we continue to sin. But God is still a Holy and rightoeus God, and wants us still to fear Him as God. Not out of fright, but out of respect and honour. We also need to reverence Jesus also because He is also God.

You are going to get so many scripture references that I'm not going to bother to list them. If YOU had ever read the N.T. you WOULD'NT be asking the question. There is MORE injunctions in the New Testement, than in the Old Testement....theBerean

I didn't know people split up the Bible and decided to follow one half or the other? That's news to me.


I found this:
Mark 7:20
He went on: "What comes out of a man is what makes him 'unclean.' For from within, out of men's hearts, come evil thoughts, SEXUAL IMMORALITY, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and make a man 'unclean.' "

Abby, Paul is very clear in his writings that homosexuality is a sin.

Read Romans chapter one.

Romans 1 addresses that subject.

Homosexuality is a sin.
Homosexuals are people.
Jesus died for ALL people.
Their sins are not 'worse' than anyones else's. Sin is sin. Sin is what separates us from God. Jesus bridged that gap by dying on the cross. Homosexuals should be welcome in our churches. Jesus Himself would welcome them.
