In the early stages there usually aren't any symptoms. When they do occur, the most common symptoms are pain in the belly, especially gas pains, cramps, or a feeling of fullness, blood in your stool or very dark stools, and a change in your bowel habits. Other less common symptoms include fatigue and unexplained weight loss. You can read more here

I had bowel cancer 7 years ago. The usual symptons are as described by Nurse Annie above but the scary thing is I had few of these at the time. My main sympton was being pale due to anaemia & a very slight niggly pain in my abdomen area, occassionally at night time. There was no visible sign at all to me of blood in my stools but it was found when they were tested.
Anyway after an operation to remove the tumour and a course of chemo, which by the way did not cause me to lose my hair , here I am as fit as a fiddle.
If you have any symptons described, dont be embarassed to go to the doctor, they can arrange simple stool check tests for you and if caught early, you can be cured . . . . . . . . . . . . and Im living proof of that !

My father just passed away from this cancer because it was not caught early enough. He suffered from cramps and pain in his abdomen, had blood in his stools and what he thought was severe heartburn. He neglected to go to the doctor because he thought it was something caused by the food/water in Iraq where he was for 2 years before the illness finally forced him home. Please go to your doctor and discuss any and all symptoms as soon as possible. At best you either find out maybe early enough for a cure or you find that it is not cancer at all. Either way sooner is better than later. My dad only lived 3 months after they found it because he waited 2 years to see a doctor. I hope all goes well for you. Good Luck..

the most likley answer is misdiagnosis I don't know the intricet details but God seems to be the first answer people use when something good happens and people don't consider the full posibilities. I have nothing against any faith infact I am a christian but I feel God does not save life on earth. I would say your friend needs to bear in mind that he's no use to god in a coffin so needs the lifesaving treatment. Doctors perform the real miracles!

well my Mum has bowel cancer, her symptoms were ; stomach aches constantly, loss of appetite and weight, and basically symptoms mimicking a kidney infection.she didn't have bleeding from her anus or bloody stools although they are one of the main symptoms. She was in constant pain and the doctors treated her for Irritable Bowel Syndrome,Diverticulitis,Kidney Infections etc before she collapsed and the hospital found it was bowel cancer-she's currently undergoing treatment for it.

Don't rely on the symptoms to diagnose yourself. Get yourself to the doctor as the symptoms are so similar to many other conditions.
It's like the NHS Direct thing. You can only get so far before it says: "Go to the doctor".
