At what point does a woman become a mom? At conception? At birth? Some even said when their child first calls them 'mom'...what do you think??

For me, the reality of being a mom didn't sink in until my daughter was home. The first few days I was still kind of in amazement. I think it really sunk in, about a week later, when I was sleep deprived and the baby wouldn't go to sleep. That's when it hit me, that no matter how tired I was, I had to take care of her, because I was her MOM!

I agree with Queen of Cards. As soon as you start making decisions that include the "two" of you, Then you are a mum/mom.

I couldnt help but smile at your question though, I used to put my hands on belly when I was just a few weeks pregnant and think how amazing it was I'd been blessed to be a mum. The reality REALLY sets in when you have given birth and you hold your baby for the first time. Your whole outlook on life changes. Your priorities are all of a sudden re-arranged and you know you will do anything to keep your baby safe and loved.

Being a mom is amazing.

I think you become a mom at conception. At that point you have to start living your life for the well being of your child. I will say though, that I didn't feel like a mom until my daughter was 2 weeks old. I took care of her and cuddled her, but it just seemed surreal at first. Being a mom has been the best ride of my life.

You become a mom as soon as you KNOW you're going to become a mom. You can't be a mom if you don't know you're pregnant - otherwise you'd have to walk around your whole adult life thinking "Well, maybe I'm a mom". Once you know, you become responsible for all the decisions and actions you take, but you can't be responsible if you didn't know you were making decisions for two.

When I found out I was pregnant I felt like a Mom, because I have a lot more to deal with than before as far as the baby. I need to take care of myself and sleep better and think about him before me...sounds like a mom!

BEFORE conception - I think all women have a natural instinct that makes them mothers. I loved my child before I knew he existed. I also want to adopt someday, and I already love that child - even though she may not exist yet.

At conception, or adoption- don't forget adoptive mothers are every bit as much a mother as someone who gives birth.

For me. I was a mom when I found out I was pregnant. But I think that it really "sank in" when I held my oldest in my arms for the first time. It was kind of like "wow, this is REAL" KWIM?
