Very little - it's just a matter of conscience.

I cant tell you the difference in the composition, except that an organic chicken is not pumped full of liquid like a conventional chicken in the grocery store. Side-by-side the organic chicken has more flavor than the conventional chicken. You can actually taste the meat rather than the water solution they added during processing.
Like another poster said, an organic chicken would only get antibiotics if it is sick. Is that really that bad? Do you take antibiotics when you are healthy? So why should the chicken? That does get built up in the chicken and then passed on to the consumer's diet.

There may be very little difference between organic and 'normal' chickens as it only means the bird has been fed differently. I know some that are kept in large barns and have no room to even turn around. For a really decent chicken go to a farmer's market or farm shop that sell Free-range chickens. These are better and the meat is leaner because no water has been added to make them look plumper! At least they taste like the birds I remember from my childhood 50 years ago!

the difference is SHOCKING. Battery chickens are kept confined in small cages, where they cannot even spread their wings. The cages are stacked on top of eachother, so the droppings of the upper birds falls on the ones below, resulting in disease. Due to the unsanitary conditions, they are given antibiotics in their feed-unnatural feed that often contains organ meats and brains from other dead chickens. Many of them have their beaks cut off to prevent them from being aggressive in these deplorable conditions. Chickens that are too week to survive, become cat food and canned chicken meat. Because the meat is so toxic, after slaughter they are injected with "broths" or "enhancers" that contain antimicrobial chemicals to disinfect the putrid meat. Organic chickens, at least those farmed by a REPUTABLE organic farm, are allowed to roam free (free range) and are fed a proper diet. They are not injected with hormones and antibiotics. Organic is the far better choice. You can read more about this and other meats on my blog at

First of all, "traditional" methods of raising chickens is cruel and unsanitary. The "growers" must use many tricks to keep these animals healthy enough to slaughter and big enough to slaughter as quickly as possible from chick to chicken. After the animals are killed their muscles are enhanced with a solution to give it flavor and fill. Read here...water weighs quite a bit when we are paying for something by the pound.
If you are curious about the actual difference, buy a pack of each and cook them side by side with the same recipe. Because of our conditioning you may actually be more familiar with the way traditional poultry cooks, but try to bring all the facts into your observations.

The meat from a "battery chicken" will have a lower fat level be less nutritious and will probably be quite "stringy" when bitten. Whereas "organic chickens" will be a better shape, taste, texture, more nutritious and of a better consitency. (Not to mention more expensive. lol.)

I would go for FREE RANGE chickens over organic. Just because a chicken is organic, does not mean it is free run. A free run chicken is not caged, is raised humanely, and feeds as is required. No growth hormones or animal by products are used.

Organic poultry is actually less nutritious, contains more fat and tastes worse than its mass-produced equivalent, research has shown Organic chicken, which typically costs nearly three times as much as battery-farmed poultry, also contained lower levels of anti-oxidants – compounds which mop up harmful molecules called free radicals that have been linked to cancer, heart disease and strokes.

If that wasn't enough, the chicken , which are raised as naturally as possible and are given antibiotics only when they are actually ill – contained up to twice as much cholesterol.
