Yes, many who are hypothyroid can develop diabetes. It could be because of the weight gain and the difficulty breaking down foods from the hypothyroidism. I'm hypothyroid and I'm also insulin resistant. Insulin resistance is called Prediabetes. I got it from the weight gain from being hypthyroid. I'm on Metformin ER to help with th insulin resistance and hopefully I can stop a diabetes diagnosis in the future.

Yes and no...diabetes would not be a thyroid problem. But, if you have both, it could be a problem with your pituitary gland. The pituitary gland oversees all glands in the body. If your thyroid and pancreas are having problems, there is a chance the pituitary is the cause. If you have both, you need to see an endocrinologist and ask to do labs to check pituitary function. Drs aren't very good at putting this together...that is the problem I had and went undiagnosed for 1 year after symptoms started.

No. I had thyroid trouble when I was much younger. I took pills for it. I don't seem to have any effects of it now. I have no sign of diabetes. Don't worry. It doesn't mean that you won't get diabetes. I also know a lot of friends who are diabetics who have never had thyroid problems. I've never heard any connection between them.
