Cats really are creatures of habit/consistency. They also have built in alarm clocks..because of something that is constant i.e. when you wake, when they want to be fed at a certain time. It's pretty much habit. Just like you, if you are used to waking at say 7 a.m. even when you can sleep in your body has adjusted to that rising time and you usually wake around that time even tho you may not have to get up that day. Just give your pets lots of love and that 5 min. you missed will be well worth it. Good Luck

Yes that is normal for a cat to do. My cats wake me up in the middle of the night alot of times so if your cat just wakes you up in the morning then your lucky.

I had a cat who would sit by my side every morning because I'd hit the snooze function on my alarm or switch it off and then oversleep. He'd mew loudly at the precise moment I fall asleep and so I'd be jolted awake again. He knew me really well..

I Think they do that so they dont have to hear the alarm. cats dont like noises like that.. my cat will wake us up often verrrrrrry early in the mornin cuz she is bored or she has to go to the bathroom.. she misses our company.. but she is almost a year old and she is startin to sleep more so it isnt as bad anymore durin the night.morning. good luck.. she wants to have a little time wth you before you wake up. that is really sweet

Maybe she doesn't want to hear the alarm and has come to sense when it is time to get up. It's the cats way of avoiding unpleasnt sounds.
Their hearing is much more sensitive than ours. This is my best guess, anyway.

my guinea pigs do this... my boyfriend feeds them every morning around 6:30 am before he leaves for school... now even when he doesn't have school the guinea pigs get up and yell for food at 6:30 am... animals are smart and get into routines; your cat is obviously aware of the time and so she's getting you up
