Morgy, whether you voted for it or not, you are a member and held the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2005. One would think if all other nations who are members endure the monetary change and subsequent growing pains, the UK should follow suit.

so far, all I see are answers based on why England is sitting it out because they think they are too good to change or they feel their economy is doing just fine without changing...thats silly. If England wants to be a member of the EU, then change to the Euro like everyone else...if they don't want to be in and feel as if it is to no advantage top them to be in, then get out.
You cant reap the benefits of being in, but not do what it takes to be congruent with the EU. Typical English snobbery

Why should we? We have (compared to the Eurozone):

Lower inflation
lower unemployment
lower taxation

Every other EU country besides the UK held a referendum in the late '90s to decide whether to change to the Euro or not.

In most of the countries (I think Finland and Denmark were the exceptions) the majority voted for the Euro.

Whether the UK keeps the £ or changes to the Euro should be for the people to decide, but so far there has not been a referendum and the government keeps stalling on the issue.

Meanwhile many shops in the UK accept Euros on account of the millions of visitors from Europe each year.

I'm with Morgy and others on this, why change a stable and strong respected currency for a weak Euro? We never voted to join the EU we were dragged into the EEC which was a different thing.Over the years we have surrendered our powers and parts of our territory to foreigners. Now we are stuck with the wasteful European parliament with their barmy ideas, the nanny court of Strasbourg telling us how to run our country and a home government who is quite happy to let immigrants flood the country.

Because are to proud ?!

£ is the most "powerful" currency on the world market. I'm sure if the economic situation will change they will convert £ to EURO.

Anyway I think they don't want to lose the economic stability they have and let others country's like, Germany, France who also have powerful economy , to "carry" all new U.E. members.

I don't know why they take a lot of unpopular measures for other U.E. country's (visa , most of the workers in UE don't have the right to work on UK...etc), they surely fear for UK economy but they want , in the same time, respect from U.E. country's and probably they consider U.K. like a leader a U.E. I think only them believe that.
The numbers say they are wrong. Not a lot of workers or tourists want to work or visit the UK, a lot of east European citizens see England like a transit country rather that one to live in.

They join in U.E. because U.K. fear they will be left behind and won't have the possibly to enter later wen the economic situation is better and they actually win or take money for other U.E. country's. Selfish ?! yes.

And one more thing and I'm out. England, Austria and maybe there's one more but I don't want to name them. Entire economy on these country's are based on spoils of war. No matter what they think or say . That's my opinion.

Why should we?

Why did we join the EU?
We didn't. We signed up to join the EEC, which was, at the time, a trading agreement between nations. It morphed into the meddling bureaucratic behemoth that is the EU.

It wouldn't be the same. England is gradually slipping away from the England it used to be, if they changed currency it would'nt be the same England anymore.
