The statistics in Europe are lower on all 3 of these issues, despite the practice of religion being much lower. Violent crime is also lower. Most people here seem to think religion is where people get their morals, but this seems to say otherwise. What do you think?

Wow, Kohleary, you have never been to Europe, have you?

The point I am trying to make is that people seem to think being religious is where people get their morals.

Religion does not teach morality. It uses eternal torment to control its followers and "try" to make them follow its standards. We all know right from wrong. It is a basic instinct. Wrong stems from selfishness in one form or another. It is a question of character as to how we apply that knowledge.

Well i live in the UK and we have the highest teen pregnancy rate in Europe. Less violent crime? I'm sorry but you are wrong we are living in very violent times right now. Just this past month 3 boys have been shot and killed in London. Women found dead left right and center, ASBO are riff and do no good what so ever. We are definitely not less religious than anywhere else. There are plenty of teenagers here with no morals at all. Just go to any high street in any town on a Friday or Saturday night. Drunk, fighting, urinating in public, committing sex acts in full view of anyone walking past, come on. I think you need to reexamine your studies they are way, way of base.

Sinyckel - To accept a compliment that is not based on fact is accepting a lie. That i cant do. You don't know what goes on in my country. It is far from perfect. Just last week a 2 year old child was raped and murdered in her own home by her own uncle, we have 12 year olds in the news paper for being the youngest child in the UK to become a mother. We have a corrupt government who are Bush's sheep. If you want me to ignore all that and say "yeah thanks its a great place to live" sorry but I'm not a hypocrite. We have children living in abject poverty and pedophiles galore. Sorry but I'm not a person to walk around with my eyes closed i see a problem and i have to acknowledge it. I live by my standards not yours.

Ironic isn't the interest i might use. I examine the information as info of the disintegration of the bible belt as such. it is not extraordinarily superb that chaos follows the jettisoning of cultural mores foundational to a collection. extraordinarily while no longer something is put in their place. Hypocrisy is disgusting. i'm no longer able to probably agree greater. yet you could no longer truthfully have self assurance that those stats mirror genuine prepare of the religion those human beings profess. you may as nicely blame drunk drivers on the regulations ordinary to get rid of them. The bible isn't adverse approximately intercourse. It basically lays down the regulations for sexual expression in a practicable human society. while a society abandons the regulations, it disintegrates. If something, the case below communicate validates this reasoning thoroughly. You element to Europe as a shining occasion of a few great reward of sexual hedonism. yet interior of a era or 2, Europe would be Muslim. perchance you'll be able to desire to ask your self why... peace Edit: No. i do no longer see Islam as God's judgment! that's an common case of a colourful, residing subculture overwhelming a decadent dying one. and that's my element thoroughly.

I just wanted to chime in on what Sen B had to say about her country...
Yeah, all of that stuff happens in my town weekly. Now add everyone else's towns in the U.S. and you will start to get a picture of just how "morally" corrupt the U.S. is. Now factor in that approximately 85% of that population is religious, and that the overwhelming majority of that 85% are Christian....
Pretty Bleak. When someone offers you a compliment, just accept it.

Europe has better numbers in those areas _because_ it is less religious.
