I have heard that you can not take deodorant cans in your case due to them exploding at high altitudes. Is this true.

Yes, as far as I know you can. The plane is also pressurized so the altitude shouldn't really matter. I've taken deodorant and things like that on the plane many times. If you're in the U.S. you might want to rethink taking liquids like shampoo though. They basically won't let you walk on the plane with anything larger than a small perfume bottle when it comes to liquid, for fear of explosives.

You cant take it through security - if it is more than 100 ml !! I bought a can of deoderant before going through. Security took it off me - so I bought anotherni n the shop once I cleared security !!

silly really -

its to do with the unknown contents in the can. and the potential for the quantity to be used in an explosive device. buy it when you get there - much easier and probably cheaper too !

Think about this
What is inside the can apart from deoderant.?
Pressurise gas.

Whey do your ears pop when you go up in a plane?
The air pressure drops

If there is less pressure on the outside of the can what is going to happen?
The can will expand.

What happens if the air pressure drops a little too low?
The can explodes.

What could the result of an explosion on board an airplane?
I'll let you answer that one

I don't take pressure containers into the cabin. If it does go off then the hold can withstand it.

I buy where I land and leave for someone else..

I take deodorant every time I fly - in my hold baggage.

Strictly speaking your not supposed to, but it won't implode due to reduced pressure. Done it roughly a hundered times or so.
