Okay, I am part of a small theatre group, based in Devon, planning a local historical play. Setting aside the obvious sources of funding like Arts Council, Lottery, etc, can anyone reccomend less known grants or things to which we might possibly be able to apply?

I recommend you contact the British Council they are an arts based organisation that provides grants. I used to work there, but don't have any contact details to hand. They have a website you can find with google.

Go to a library and ask to see their copy of The Directory of Grant Making Trusts

Your local council should have an arts budget that may give grants to local groups, and don't forget to aks the local newspapers and businesses for free advertising/sponsorhip etc.

Three are actually grant company's that help historical based theater/reenactments specifically everywhere. Research them in your Local area. I bet they would be a huge help. Also, Local towns and universities also can help fund a program though grants if you can prove and help define a target audience.

You could solicit funding from a wealthy benefactor in your community. Often they have resources and an interest in supporting the arts.

You can sometimes get companies to sponsor the production too, provided it's worthwhile for the company
