Harrods I believe. Isn't there some random story about the first people on it having to be given brandy at the top to calm their nerves?!

The first one on the London Underground was at Earls Court station, and they employed a one-legged bloke to ride up and down all day just to show how easy it was to use!

Harrods. It was wooden and rickety, and people were so afraid to use it that they needed smelling salts, spices, and alcohol on both ends to calm themselves.
