Where can I find a good list of KC restaurants? I'll be visiting and want to plan ahead. Maps would be nice too so I will know if they are close enough to my hotel.

If you want a good restaurant go for a taste unique to Kansas City, not just the same menu. Here are some of my favorites.

Jardines on 4536 Main has gourmet food and live jazz. Always a good time.

Aixois at 251 E. 55th St. or Le Fou Frog at 400 E. Fifth St. for French cuisine. Aixois being more casual than the Frog.

Carmen's Café 6307 Brookside Plaza for itialian, small but worth the wait.

Waldo Pizza at 75th and Wornall for your neighborhood, got every ingredient, local owned, good food pizza.

Arthur Bryant's Barbecue at 1727 Brooklyn for a K.C bbq original.

McCoys at Westport road and Pennsylvania for the best brewery / pub food. Try the pizza and the beer, trust me.

There are others, "The Pitch" local magazine reviews and rates restaurants every year. Pick one up at any street corner to find the latest restaurant review.

Or check them out here for a more extensive guide.

Here's a few links for you

http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/entertainment/special_packages/visitors_guide/dining/

http://www.visitkc.com/visitor_info/index.cfm?page=visitor_info_dining.cfm

Some local favorites are:
Fiorella's Jack Stack Barbeque--there's 4 or 5 locations now, but it's great BBQ
Lidia's--great Italian
Hereford House--2 or 3 different locations--fantastic steakhouse

Hopefully the above links will give you location and map info. If you let us know where you'll be staying, I can give you an even better listing. KC is a BIG, spread out place.

Hit up the Rainforest Cafe, which is in Overland Park, a burb of KC. Its an almost magical place and I would hightly recommend if youre bringing children, a wife or a girlfriend with you. Its also close to the Oak Park Mall, which is the best mall in the metro area.
Also good are Jack Stacks BBQ and O'Dowds Little Dublin, and score some Greek food (and plate breaking and on late weekends belly dancing women) at Tassos.

THE POWER PLANT in Parkville, Kansas City is so AWESOME! it's a great family restaurant with the best food!!! and it's not overpriced either. They also have really good beer and wine-the beer they brew themselves and it's really tasty. (and inexpensive-$2.00 a pint) The Power Plant has a really nice, quiet atmosphere and is actually located inside an old power plant! it's really cool. it's by a train station and when a train goes by, the whole building vibrates! it's a really cool restaurant! Go there!

I lived in KC 10 years, and here are my favorites that I will go back for:

O'Dowd's Little Dublin, two locations, one on the Plaza and the other in Zona Rosa (Irish and pub fare)

Dragon Inn in Prairie Village (Chinese)

Cafe Italia in North KC (Italian)

Rudy's Tenampa Taqueria in Westport (Mexican)

Copeland's in Overland Park (Cajun/American)

Manny's - close to Crown Center/downtown (Mexican)

Golden Ox - downtown area (steakhouse)

KC Masterpiece - Plaza (bbq)

Tomfooleries - Plaza and Zona Rosa (American)

Jerusalem Cafe - Westport (Mediterranean)

I'm sure there's more, but I can't think of them right now! Hope this helps!

After living in Kansas City for over 25 years, this is the site I tell my friends to check out when they come visit. It's the best list I have found for someone new to the city.
