I do believe that sugar can definitely alter a person's mood. I feel a difference and I knew a person who would really act strange after eating sugar. Few years ago after a weekend of eating lots desserts, I felt quite down for few days and I could not understand why until I had an insight and I linked it to the sugar and it totally changed my life.
I have been eating quite healthy for the past year and I feel that it makes a difference. To replace the junk food with food that nourishes the mind and body such as vegetable, nuts, whole grain, pulses, fruits, flax oil... Know that we are usually addicted the most to the food that we are allergic too.
There are alternative to sugar such as Madhava Agave Nectar, Stevia, honey, maple syrup.
Good luck.

Sugar sensitivity may account for some of the symptoms of depression and anxiety. It can induce mood swings, irritability and agitation.
Eliminating sugar will give you a good base to work from as sugar can aggravate illness. It may not eliminate all your symptoms, especially if you are bipolar I, but it could make a substantial difference.

Is that "Potatoes not Prozac"?
I'm very interested in that book and have been trying to track it down.
I suffer from severe depression, and I notice that when I cut sugar out of my diet I feel much better. Or, it could be that I'm only able to cut the sugar out when I'm feeling better anyway.
Anyways, I'll stop rambling now, I'm interested to hear the answers to this question.
