it is not the most painful place to get a tattoo but it is painful. i have a tattoo on the tops of both of my feet and that was extremely painful, so is the spine. the sternum is also painful and the shins (says my husband) don't get or not get a tattoo because of the pain. get it because you want it.

Anywhere with bone near the surface is going to be more painful. I've heard the foot is the worst. I have one on the nape of my neck and a couple around my wrists. You have a multitude of places to get your tatt. You've got an entire body.

I have one purple flower, one blue flower, one orange flower and one red flower. They're tiger lily's, with green leaves and black "tribal wrap-around designs. It is located above my wrist bone and it doesn't wrap all the way around my wrist. If you were to measure it in length and width, it's about 4 inches long and 1 1/2 to 2 inches wide. It goes half way around my wrist. I wish I had pictures to show you, and I did but I deleted them off my computer because I printed the pictures out. Damn! But anyways, it's a very very feminine tattoo as well, and I also get tons of compliments! It looks awesome when I wear color clothes because it matches, and it really stands out and appears to be a bracelet. When I want it covered, I put on a normal bracelet and it covers it just fine, but I never cover it anymore. I love it!

it will hurt on the ankle as the bone is closer to the skin. I have mine on my shoulder & it didnt hurt much at all. Hubby has a few, the one on the back of his leg didnt hurt, nor did the one on the back of his neck, but the one on his arm hurt at the area of the top where his bone is. From my understanding, the wrist is the most painful. Ask your tattooist, youd get a more accurate answer from him/her!!! As for numbing the area, I have never heard it done. The area needs to be as clean as possible. They wax the hair off & rub the area with some sort of alcohol cleanser.

I have one on the back (upper left shoulder). It's more of a burning sensation. It's kind of fells like being scratched by a cat. After a few minutes it goes numb anyway. They don't numb you before the tattooing. Ask the artist where the best place is. They will tell you what they think.

i've heard that as well. no matter where you get a tattoo there is going to be some pain involved. where it hits the bone is more irritating then others. plus it also depends your artist. if they go too deep with the gun, that causes excess pain and bleeding. so make sure you find a reputable shop.
