1994 Grand Marquis or a 1993 Chevy Lumina.
Regardless of miles or price which based upon your own or someone you knows personal experience with these vehicles which one would you purchase?
Which one based on make and model would you think would last me longer?

Well as said earlier condition would be a huge factor, but if the two were comparable in condition I would choose the mercury.

I have always prefered chevy's in the past, but most of the ones I have seen from 90 on were not as good as the old ones(I have an 84 suburban with 308000 miles on original engine, still going strong!). In fact my friend has an 05 cobalt and it has been back to the dealer so much that everyone there knows her on a first name basis.

I have owned a 91 crown vic, which is the same as the grand marquis, and there is a reason they are used by the government (police, govt. officials). They are well built and they seem to hold up if maintained.

well you can't say regardless of miles because that is a factor when purchasing a car , the Grand Marquis was probably used by someone older ((more responsible to keep up regular maintenance)) plus the cost of repair is cheaper )) it has probably been driven responsibly

The lumina more or less has probably been driven by younger drivers ..so it has been driven a lot harder which means it is probably almost worn out ., and no regular maintenance , the lumina is front wheel drive ((more moving parts)) plus driven by a younger person = more problems plus lumina's are more costly for repairs which will be more frequent due to younger drivers ..

The grand marquis is an 8 cyl engine vs. lumina 6cyl ( maybe )
the difference in gas usage is nothing compared to the repair bills on the chevy..
plus I have rarely seen a lumina go over200,000 miles they normally start smoking anywhere from 80,000 to 150,000

So based on that I would say go with the grand marquis if taken care of it will last longer than the chevy , has a lot better ride
the marquis is the exact same car as the crown victoria ((just different front & rear ends ,and instument pannel )) it hasd the same drive train , so the marquis is a more top of the line vehicle , and the lumina is more bottom of the line

The Grand Marquis will undoubtedly last longer. It is a Ford Crown Victoria with a Mercury name plate on it. The Crown Vic has established itself as one of the most durable longest lasting vehicles through countless Police forces across the country. The drawback as opposed to the Lumina is that is has a V8 and will get worse gas mileage.

My wife has owned both, we sold the marquis after two years of good service. The lumina had numerous transmission problems, and was given away. The lumina was better on gas milage though.

I gotta say neither based on how many I have seen on the road. They don't hold up in the long run. I think you would be better off with a Honda. They are extremely reliable and don't hurt your money situation. But that is just what i think.

It's not that simple.

Mileage and condition of the cars will be a big factor in your choice.

All things being equal, I'd lean toward the Marquis.

There's a reason they're depended upon by so many police departments.

Full size, rear wheel drive, v8 power, body on frame, smooth and nice! that's the way to go in my book... Get the Mercury Grand.

Best wishes...

i would not purchase either one because neither one has a good track record for reliability and neither one gets very good gas mileage.
