In Bengali 'Biddalay' means school

In 1836, influenced by the Bengali agents, the colonial administration in Assam dropped Assamese language from public documents, and school education. From the earliest stage of education on up to the entrance courses by the University of Calcutta in India, English has been the primary language taught in all the classes, so, the answer could be school.
