Meat, fish, poultry: The body absorbs the most iron from meat, fish and poultry (chicken). The amount of iron, in milligrams (mg), that is found in these foods is listed below:

Very good sources (3.5 mg or more per serving):

Three ounces of beef or chicken liver.

Three ounces of clams or mollusks.

Three ounces of oysters.

Good sources (2.1 mg or more per serving):

Three ounces of cooked beef (ground or steak).

Three ounces of canned sardines (canned in oil).

Three ounces of cooked turkey.

Other sources (0.7 mg or more per serving):

Three ounces of chicken.

Three ounces of halibut, haddock, perch, salmon, and tuna.

Three ounces of pork (ham).

Three ounces of veal.

Other iron-rich foods: Other foods also contain iron, but your body does not absorb the iron from these foods as well. To increase iron absorption (ab-SORP-shun) from the following foods, eat a good source of Vitamin C at the same time . Eating a food from the meat, fish, and poultry group at the same time will also increase iron absorption. The amount of iron that is found in these foods is listed below:

Very good sources (3.5 mg or more):

Breakfast cereals enriched with iron (see food label for serving size).

One cup of cooked beans (white beans, soybeans, lentils or chickpeas).

One-half of a cup of tofu.

One ounce of pumpkin, sesame, or squash seeds.

Good sources (2.1 mg or more):

One-half cup of canned lima, red kidney beans, chickpeas or split peas.

One cup of dried apricots.

One medium baked potato.

One medium stalk of broccoli.

One cup of cooked enriched egg noodles.

One-fourth of a cup of wheat germ.

Other sources (0.7 mg or more):

One ounce of peanuts, pecans, walnuts, pistachios, roasted almonds, roasted cashews, or sunflower seeds.

One-half of a cup of dried seedless raisins, peaches, or prunes.

One cup of spinach.

One medium green pepper.

One cup of pasta.

One slice of bread, pumpernickel bagel, or bran muffin.

One cup of rice.

Now! This should get you up and running! Good Luck!

I'm curious have you tried both types of supplement. I cant remember the chemical names but there is a difference, one being red pills verses green ones. I can only stomach the green ones they are lighter on the belly and easier on the other end too if you take to much.
Try eating a bunch of fresh veggies and liver. Liver is one of the best sources. If you don't like the tradition liver and onions try buying chicken livers and putting shake and bake on them.Preferably b.b.q it disguises the taste quite while. Oh and don't over cook them or they turn to rubber.

iron can only be absorbed by the body with the aid of vitamin c so when you are eating iron rich food it may be wasted if you have not included enough vitamins also. so id recommend always having a glass of orange juice with your cereal in the morning (most of which are iron enriched now) and more fruit before dinner which should include green leafy veg such as cabbage...

You can get water that has a high iron content prescribed by your doctor. You dilute it with juice and drink it once or twice a day. As its water there are no side effects and as you dilute it with juice you can dilute it with pure orange juice, which has the vitamin c to help increase iron absorption.

The only thing is if you dont dilute it well enough it leaves a metal after taste in your mouth but this only lasts a few seconds.

Take an iron tablet. Go to Holland & Baratt can't spell it and get a good iron tablet. Also dark, green leafy veggies have tons of iron as does red meat,

Make sure you're eating a good balanced diet, spinach and broccoli are good sources as is Guinness, and the body needs vitamin c to extract the iron, so orange juice and fruits too

You either need calf liver or chicken livers. Citrus fruits eaten at the same time as these will assist absorption ten fold or iron. Be sure to eat a fresh orange not the juice (they cook radiate the juice) C out of juice.

Take iron supplements. If you can't tolerate them. Eat red meat like beef. If you're a vegetarian, it'll be harder. You could try cooking with cast iron cookware. (It's true. I didn't make this up. I read it somewhere long ago.)
