spell checker software doesn't really "know" what word you meant to type, what happens is the software takes all of the words in the dictionary that have the same letters as the word you mispelled and chooses the most relevant word that most resembles the word you typed.

It doesn't, as anyone who speaks British English will tell you!
It uses a pre installed dictionary,with which it compares what you have written and suggests real words where you have typed a near miss. The spell checker will not pick up an error which is an actual word

It could be a spell checker, or even a smell checker, both of these are accepted. Spill checking is good for catching teh mistypes like this, but won't help if you use the wrong worm
And yes this was spell checked with ONE word flagged

It doesn't--it just guesses based on its dictionary. Won't help at all if you make a typo that is another real word, though, such as "I want too go two the store."
