Check this site out:
http://www.thyroiduk.org/ a very useful resource if you suspect you may be suffering from hypothyroidism.
The blood tests that gp's give youin the uk are next to useless as I found out and that website will tell you all about it.
It can creep upon you slowly, my signs were putting on weight (not obese at all) becoming tired easily, feeling like you're running on an empty tank. Muscle fatigue. Heart palpitations, dry gritty eyes. Wounds take forever to heal - i.e say you scratched yourself or got bitten by an insect, it just would not disappear for months and when it eventually does it leaves pigmentation behind (brown patch) Your body odour can start to smell significantly different than usual, which is strange and upsetting.
Look at your tongue, does it always have indentations of your teeth in it? Do you find it very difficult to tolerate both winter and summer because of the extremes in temperature? I used to cry in the winter because I got so cold and felt like I was going to die in the summer. And until this happened I used to be such an active outdoor person in all weathers!
If you suspect you are suffering from it and get nowhere with your GP (it can lead to a premature death if left untreated, amongst other things) - I'd suggest you send a blood sample off to Holland, it costs about £50 if you can afford it.
Well, that site will tell you all you need to know.
Good luck :)

Feeling tired, intolerance to cold, hair falling out, dry skin, memory problems. For me, the big one was being tired and cold all the time. 1 pill a day for the rest of my life fixed the problem. I feel great now. I did not gain any weight! I am skinny.

Thyroid disease is one of the most common health problems we face today. From a practical standpoint, there are many ways to approach this issue. Learn here https://tr.im/lefJ1
Hypothyroidism, or underactive thyroid, is a very common problem, and there are many reasons for this, including drinking chlorinated and fluoridated water, and eating brominated flour.
Chlorine, fluoride, and bromine are all in the same family as iodine, and can displace iodine in your thyroid gland.
Secondly, many people simply aren't getting enough iodine in their diet to begin with. The amount you get from iodized salt is just barely enough to prevent you from getting a goiter.

There are a lot of different signs that can be misconstrued as hypothyroidism. The best and only way to tell is through a blood test. Get one.

Dry skin
Slow metabolism
Fatigue
Swelling, particularly of the ankles
These are only a few of the symptoms; many exist.
The good news is that both prescription and herbal remedies are available.
