Camera-nut, Can of Beans and lukas_m_wilson: If you don't even know what Plato's Cave is you would obviously have no desire to escape it. Perhaps it would be good for you all to read up on it.

FILIPINO paisano: If it is true that you have escaped you will find it difficult to convince people you know of a better reality, when they cannot see any benefit to following you in their reality. I can see that this reality is ficticious - can you help me break the chains?

so many people are joking about this they can't see that they are EXACTLY like the enchained! This is an extremely serious issue - not one to joke about.

acid_zebra: uncut: I have thought that myself, and of course it is likely - but that isn't an excuse not to try. After all, if you had to choose between an open prison and a single locked cell for the rest of your life, wouldn't you chose the open prison?

Ymmo: Would you want to help other people escape, knowing you would be branded 'insane'? conforting to know that any insane assylum into which I am locked will only be as restrictive as the cave I am in now.

I'm trying to, but the sun still proves to be quite blinding to my eyes time to time. I'm trying my best.

Edit: After a couple of actual trips to psychiatrists and similar I kinda stopped trying. Hey, why bother anymore? You can show the people the exit, but whether they will follow or not, that's their problem.
Restricting asylum or not, I personally prefer "open prison to a single locked cell", if I use your words. Metaphore or not.
If it's better to be able to walk in and out of the cave, then it's better to be able to walk in and out of buildings.
So what, you'll say, the people inside the asylum are the ones outside the cave. Maybe, a couple of them. But those don't need your help anymore. Do you want to sit there, in an elitist company, and gloat?
While outside the asylum you might actually find one or two people who are willing to listen, break the chains and look into the fire.

no, man, it's warm and cozy and I like them shadows on the wall.

heh, once you lose the ability to laugh about even serious issues the battle is lost. Anyway, I do not believe we can escape, are we not chained? And if we were to leave the cave, would it not lead to something which is in essence merely a bigger cave?

Yes, in a way. There is no problem pretending to play the game, in breaking the chains, in seeing the light, in acclimating to the darkness, or in simply running away free. However, I refuse usually to play by the rules, and certainly not limited by them.

There is a way that seems right to a man but is wrong.

If you believe the cave is all there is you will not leave.

Well, I was going to, but then I thought "hey, it's not so bad in here. It's warm, the food's good, they have wireless internet..." so I think I'll stick around a while instead.

I've been trying to free fellow prisoners....Then again it may be fun to go back in and make shadow puppets, see how they'll react to new shadows.
