Depending on how fast your metabolism is, the amount of calories you need to take in will differ. However, 2000 is the recommended amount of caloric intake daily in order to maintain weight, so you will have to surpass that mark; a diet of 2500 calories a day would be best; 3500 calories= 1 lb, so you could gain a pound a week. However, this will bring about changes in your basal metabolism. As far as what types of food you should eat, there should be a balance of fat, carbs and protein. You should stay clear of foods that are high in sugar (soda, sweets, etc.) and eat a diet of fairly lean meat (chicken, turkey) and vegetables. You should also include some whole grains/fiber into your diet; this will speed up your digestive system and you will still be full without a bloated feeling. As far as your stomach getting big... you really don't have much a choice, your body will put on weight wherever you are predisposed to gaining (for women this means the midsection/thigh region). And gaining weight HEALTHILY isn't a quick process, though you can gain 3-4 pounds healthily in a months time. If you really need to gain the weight, I wouldn't worry so much about your stomach. Once you start gaining weight, you can start an exercise program that will help and still allow you to maintain a weight.

I'm concerned that you may have an eating disorder. Why are you being forced to gain weight or take meds? You will have no control over where you gain weight when you increase your caloric intake, there is no special 'food' or diet that will help you gain pounds in a certain area. If you're concerned about your stomach getting temporarily larger after eating, you can try to consume less water and liquids.

Weight will usually distribute itself over the body and not just in one spot particularily such as your belly. Your belly may appear larger after you eat but give it time to digest and it wont look as big as it would have when you just ate.
