There are many artists prior to Kinkade that have the same values in their paintings. Kinkade is a decent painter and works very hard on the stuff he does. Has nice work. Probably a good teacher.. He has people that do over paintings for him now…
He reminds me of NORMAN ROCKWELL as for the marketing. Everyone will know him at least in the USA. People in other parts of the world really haven’t heard about him.. UK, Belgium, France, Australia.. No one really knows his stuff……
He’s just another (what I call) Tolkien artist. Here are some EXAMPLES of art that was done for Tolkien.,

As for using light well… Na, he uses COLOUR well to portray a mood.
His is a very accomplished artist though and I like his art. On a scale of 1 (BEST) to 10 (Least) I'd give him a 7 on my top painters list. Not meaning there are only 10 artists. Just certain painters Renoir, Angelo, Monet I’d rate at a 1…

They strike many as being rather...mushy. And it's even worse when it's everywhere. I do admit they great scenes, but some of us just want a little more grit and force. However, where I do see improvements in art, or the elevation of it, I tend to support it. At least his paintings have some meaning, as opposed to modern art; dexterity, as opposed to unprofessionalism in a lot of artists today.
However, if you are going to ask, "which artist will be remembered in history as being great - Kinkade or Monet?" The answer would have to be the latter.

Artisits don't typically have a lot of respect for Kinkade b/c the viewer doesn't need any academic knowledge of art in order to appreciate his work. He's just like every other Bob Ross-type only he managed to find a niche in religion.

I don't care for him that much...I don't think his paintings tell or say anything new. He is a talented painter, no doubt. I prefer art that looks at something in a new way or shows something unusual. His stuff just seems boring to me...like the photos a tourist takes rather than those of a photojournalist.

It was fine in the beginning. I just got tired of seeing it everywhere you looked. Not just prints for the wall, but on calendars, coffee mugs, address books and even paint-by-number kits. You name it, you can find it.
You have to admire his merchandising and mass marketing skills. Most formula painters would love to see their work in Walmarts and Dollar Stores.

His paintings are like a rich dessert. A little is very good but too much sweetness makes me nauseous.

I think that probably those who don't like him find his work too sentimental.
