"by the world" can be used as an oath for swearing, for example:
I swear by the world that I didn't lie to you.

I think there is a very fine distinction between Earth and World when we use the term Earth its is very general and it may or may not contain life. But when you use the word World we tend to use it in connection with Intelligent life and cultures involved in the concept. The Earth was formed billions of years ago. But the World unites against poverty. The second meaning is devoid of rocks water chemicals atmosphere etc its the human intelligence and culture that is participating in the concept.

The Apostle John described the world in 1 John 2:15,16 'Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world – the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life – is not of the Father but is of the world.' The world are the things our flesh and eyes lust after and the things that fans our boastful pride.

The world, this vast environment of difference, and individualism. A place we should all work very hard at maintaining and caring for so it will be around for the future generations to enjoy. God bless****
