Okay.. Stupid question! But i need to know, I'm only 13 and I have an adult female cat that eats every lil animal that comes into our yard (birds, mouse, bugs etc) My sister's dog just had puppies (pugs) and i want to take one in, he's 8 weeks old and i'm scared that my cat will eat him. Is it possible?

No i don't think you have anything to worry about sweetie. Trust me your puppy is used to fighting for hierarchy in its littler it has come from and will give that cat a nip or two to put it in its place. The cat will always be the boss don't get me wrong but just so the cat doesn't traumatise little pup for the first couple of weeks maybe keep them separated.

If your cat is a nasty cat and a good hunter and you are getting a tiny pup then i would have absolute supervision when they are in the same room together. That way you can see how your cat is going to react to the puppy. I would give it a good 6 weeks of trust of your cats behaviour before i would leave them unsupervised

Good luck with your new friend

Yup. Keep an eye on them when they are together and calmly, lovingly make it clear to your cat that he or she must "get along" with the puppy. As soon as you communicate that to the cat, even after just the very first time, the cat would NEVER eat the new addition to the family. Maybe harass it. But, not eat it. The cat needs to be told by you, demonstrated by you in how you cuddle and share the puppy with the cat that the puppy is now a part of the family or pride. ( I had a cat who snatched a neighbor's brand new $750 itty-bitty Chihuahua puppy out of their front yard and . . .well . . .do away with it as food, or, at least start to until I separated the cat from the poor, severely injured puppy and get the cat back in the house. Of, course, I immediately attempted to get help for the puppy. But, it was too late. I NEVER told anyone that until now, that it was my cat who had inflicted that attack. Oh, my gosh, I was so shocked.)

At 8 weeks old, isn't the pug puppy almost as big as your cat? What are their respective weights? Of course, your cat is going to eat little animals like birds, mice, and bugs but I wouldn't worry about her eating an 8 week old puppy.

No. She might be agressive and growl or hiss at first, but she will not eat it. She might be very upset by the barking and worried that she is being supplanted in your affection, and she may sulk and hide. On the other hand she may adopt the puppy straightaway and be a substitute mother to him/her. Introduce them to one another very gently and do not give too much obvious love to the newcomer in front of her so that she has no cause to be jealous. When you put food down serve them at the same time and keep the puppy in a specific area where she does not hang about normally at first. Good luck.

Might scratch him alot, but the puppy just wants to play and he will learn how much the cat will tolerate. That dog is to big for that cat to eat it. If your that afraid, ask the people to hold on to the dog a little longer. Good Luck and Congratulations

NO! Your cat will NOT eat the puppy. She will play with it, which just might make a very cute pair. Don't worry about it. Cats will only eat small things they catch--mice, birds, lizards, etc--NOT something that is about a 1/4th of the size of the cat.

Most likely it will not eat your puppy, but the cat may feel threatened. Place the puppy in one carrier, and the kitty in another. Introduce them through the gates. They'll be able to meet safely that way. Most likely the cat will simply teach the puppy to leave it alone by swatting at it and all should be well.
Best wishes!
Cheers!

I wanna add to the first responder.. If the cat is being bad, get a spray bottle and water... Spray when the cat hisses at the pug or does something bad. But hide it as soon as you spray it before she finds who sprayed her

I don't think they will eat him, they might scratch and stuff and hiss but is there's going to be any eating it will probably be the other way around. The cats will be jealous of something new in their territory so be sure to give them lots of love and attention. good luck.
