You discovered that the customer service representative answering your call for a query on flight booking on-line is based in the philippines. Will you kind of doubt the inquiry you're doing? Or would you look for the supervisor because you are talking to a Filipino, which is supposed to be American?

The person would be just as well trained wherever they are. There are competent and incompetent people everywhere.

The best thing you can do is note the date and time of your call, note the name and information they gave you. Keep a record of everything, that way if the information is wrong you have a fall-back and you can say "I was told xxx by your representative called xxx on this date xxx"

I don't doubt the information, but I do get frustrated because a lot of the time I have a difficult time understanding what they're telling me due to their accent. Everytime I call my credit card company I'm connected to a person in India. I always need them to repeat themeselves because I can't understand what they're saying.

I have the same issue with anyone who has a heavy accent. I have a good friend from Poland who I've known for 5 years. I still have a hard time understanding her when we speak on the phone due to her accent.

For me, if I can talk face to face with the person I can understand them better because I can "read" their lips as they speak.

You read the same article I did, huh? USA Today...http://www.usatoday.com/printedition/news/20070220/1a_cover20.art.htm
I vow to never fly United Airlines (or any of it's "partners") again, that's what I do.

Seriously, I've gotten to the point that I'll only fly if I absolutely have to. It's not a fear issue, it's a convenience issue. If an airline is going to dump me like a piece of cargo in some God forsaken place with few services, then I'll get in my car and drive, thank you very much.

All the major airlines are like that now. If you call again, you will just get another person in the philippines or India. It's been like that for several years now.

Well it is the way of the world now - everything is outsourced to countries with cheaper labour. I would say she would still be competent at her job though as she would have all the relevant info. on her computer screen.
