Need to pull slate up in the bathroom to reseal the floor, would love to be able to reuse the slate.
Is it easy to remove with out breakage, and if so what would be the best way to go about it all...Any advise would be appreciated.
Thank You.

The reason we feel it needs to be pulled up is because the slate has cracked along the grout area and the floor under neath the shower area is now leaking. The house has old timber flooring and the the slate was layed on top of this flooring. The floor was sealed properly and pass inspection but for some reason we think the floor has moved in the heat and has caused these cracks to happen.

It is almost impossible to get the slate up without cracking and breaking it. I doubt you could match it even if you were able to get the most of it up without it breaking. I would go down to the flooring place with an open mind for replacing it and see what was available.

there is no easy way to remove the slate without breakage however what i suggest is getting all the grout out of the joints with a grout saw. starting at your bathroom door and with the widest chisel on the market, get the chisel blade under the slate tile and bang away I don't me hit but gently hit the chisel slate is not easy to work with and can be very brittle so be careful and you might be able to save most of it. My question thou why would you have to pull up the slate to reseal when all you should have to do is redo your grout joints and the put sealer on that. Slate, Ceramic Tile, Marble whatever was made or installed to be permament and not removed? I think if you just did the joints that would be what you need.

okay , you say the floor under the shower is leaking? if by this you mean the area subject to water while showering, it is the shower pan itself that has failed. the shower pan needs to be re done and can only be accomplished from the bottom up- which means removing the floor of the shower. in other words, its not the flooring or tile inside the shower that makes it water tight, its whats underneath . even re grouting a shower will not solve a failed shower pan.

I agree with idak, Why are you removing it. Use a dremel with grout removal tool, re-grout and re-seal. The bigger question is why do you have to re seal the floor under the slate.
