That's a very good question to ask and I agree that we shouldn't just read the Bible but study so that we become mature in Christ.
There are ways to study the Bible: Here a few. 1. Before you start always pray and ask God to speak to you and open your understanding. 2. Pick a book in the Bible you want to start on. 3. You will need a note pad and pen so that you can jot down your thoughts and anything the Lord shows you. 4. Don't try and read the whole book in one go, instead read a paragraph or chapter and read it carefully. You need to see, What the paragraph or chapter is about, Who is talking and who is it addressed to. Many have misunderstood the Bible for not looking at it properly. Also seek how to apply it to your life.
Also the best way to help you in studying your Bible is get a study Bible (if you haven't got one) and a strongs concordance which like a Bible dictionary it gives a Hebrew and Greek definition of each word. if you haven't got any of these then go to www.amazon.com they usually sell them. Another good way to studying the Bible is listening to sermons on CD, Cassette, DVD that helps alot too. You can download sermons now from ministres like Andrew Wommack- www.awmi.net, or Kenneth copland ministries- www.kcm.org. you can download mp3 sermons that way. For me they have helped me to stay in the Bible.
But our main goal for studying the Bible is getting to know our Lord Jesus better and we can meet with Him through his Word and that's the way we fellowship as well with God.
Am glad that i found this question because i have been there my self, I remember thinking i don't know where to go until God showed what to do, and that is go through the whole Bible, since then i have been in my Bible and have been studying quite alot.
If you are really hungry for God's Word and desire to learn more then I promise you that God will fill and satisfy that hunger, he's done it with me. and this must a daily commitment. at the moment I'm studying 1 John.
I hope this has helped you. And please e-mail me So i know how you're getting on.

An excellent way a person can study the bible {New King James especially) is to have a Strong's Exhautive Concordance of the bible, along side with the bible. It gives the original Hebrew and Greek meanings of every word in the bible. This is actually the only way a person can accurately understand what the bible really means, and what it is saying to you.
There is a Free Download from E-Sword of the Bible AND the Strong's Exhautive Concordance of the bible. Otherwise, you'll be spending at least $20 or more for the Strong's.
Hope this has helped you, Take Care.

First, read the whole Bible. The overwhelming majority of Christians haven't even done that.
Pay special attention to the hundreds of verses where God commands his followers to steal, kidnap, enslave, torture, rape, forcibly abort, and kill people. Preachers won't tell you about those parts because they're hoping you won't find out they're in there.
Next, read about the history of the Bible - how the church decided which books to include and which to reject, based upon it's attempts to control what people believe. Then, if you don't have a conscience, you can read the whole Bible again a few times, with a study guide that tries to tell you that it doesn't mean what it says, and doesn't inform you that several parts are mistranslated from the original. Have fun!

i'm a student as nicely. i exploit the hot Oxford Annotated Bible which makes use of the NRSV. I even have numerous distinctive variations to evaluation. Any Bible different than the hot worldwide Translation is powerful. As for the KJV, that's sturdy to examine, yet keep in mind that isn't any longer the main suitable. there have been many advances in translation in view that 1611 or perhaps 1769 while the version of the KJV we use right this moment became released. in case you like some ideas of what to seem for, the e book a thank you to examine the Bible for All Its nicely worth can grant counsel. The NIV, NASB, ESV, REB, NLT and NAB are all sturdy translations with sturdy study Bibles. The NIV study Bible and the NASB study Bible, the two by utilising printed by utilising Zondervan, are the two respected and non sectarian of their notes. The ESV study Bible is a veritable library. i might advise any of the variations I named above as I even have examine all of them and know them to be honest. study Greek and Hebrew to be sure what the originals stated and study. God bless.

Pray BEFORE you read it and ask God to help you understand it. You can do a word study, using a concordance, looking up and studying all the verses that mention, say, "mercy."
Also, you can just start at the book of Genesis and read through the Bible, praying before and after you read it, and writing down any or all insights you gained from your personal Bible study.

Learn Greek and Hebrew. That way you can read the Bible in context, and you will understand the perspective of the writers more. Reading Paul's words in Greek, for instance, is incredibly different than reading Peter's words. You can really see how one was a PhD-level figure and the other frankly wrote like a fishermen, no offense intended to fishermen.

I noticed that before I was born again, I didn't understand my Bible at all. I would read and nothing made sense. After I was born again, I eventually started to understand what I was reading. I usually pray and ask God to show me what He wants me to read and then I let it fall open. The scripture I am shown usually tells me a message. Also, join a Bible study group of people with the same beliefs you have. I do this too. I also use this website to study.

Take your Bible out, open it up to the index. Then, find what you're really needing to concentrate on correcting. Find the passages in reference. READ THE ENTIRE STORY, not just a verse or two. If you take the entire story, you'll enjoy the study in history much better, and you'll learn a lot more than you would by just memorizing a few verses. It's much better to know why something was said, rather than that it was simply said.
Remember that a Bible that looks brand new probably has never been opened. It's much better for you to have to replace yours every few years due to wear and tear, rather than to preserve it and never really enjoy the beauty that is inside those stories and scriptures.

These called RCV version of Bible.
The Protestants regarded 7 books as ‘apocrypha’ (doubtful authority) and removed them from Bible.
(The Book of Judith
The Book of Tobias
The Book of Baruch
The Buck of Esther, etc. )
Jesus pbuh said in the book of Revelation Chapter 22 Verse 18-19 ". . . If any man shall add to these things (or delete) God shall add unto him the plagues written in this Book."
On deleting 7 books from bible, the Catholics call ‘cult of Christianity’ to the Seventh Day Adventists and Jehovah's Witnesses.
