Stop smoking, eat healthy and get exercise. If you are going to get cancer, you will get it but by doing these things you can help put it off for longer

It's genes. But If you eat a lot of vegetables, drink a lots of water, stay away from people when they're smoking. or I think you should stop smoking and drinking too. you said you will quit soon, but normally when people say that, they never quit. You should quit now, not soon. Anyways, you should also go to the doctor for check up every month. I mean If you really worying about cancer.

Dood dont worry so much!!!!!!!!
Though there has been K-zillion claims for the cure and cause of cancer.....none of them are verfied......
Do you know that 45% of cancer victims have no heriditical reason and have never smoked......
Genetic technology is in its infancy.....it has a long way to go before it can accurately predict the gene related or the cause of cancer.
I know that the media is quick in showing these stuff about cancer....even if they happen in an isolated case......without any proof or verification....one single incident doesnt prove anything.
No body knows why cancer happens man!!!!!They can claim whatever......
And even if the genes that have been associated with cancer were in your father or grandfather.......HOW do you know that the gene has been transferred from your father to you?????It could be you mom's gene that you have.....
Well do one thing at a time......QUIT SMOKING!!!!Its not for just cancer...its for your overall health!!!!!
If you are so concerned then you should get ur blood tested regularly....for a test called AMAS
(more info : http://www.lightparty.com/Health/DETECT.html )
Cheer up!!!!
Remember life doesnt guarantee anything execpt death....rest of the things you have to earn them......
Life is short even if someone lives for a 100 yrs.....live it to the best you can!!!!!
Never fear death.......

it's important to find out what KIND of cancer they had. there re a lot of cancers that could not be treated then that are survivable now.

Get a complete family history.. what kind.. when it was diagnosed.. If the men in your family didn't go to the doctors until they weren't feeling good, then were told they ere Stage 3 or 4... ok.. then it's hard to recover from that.. But if you have regular check-ups, and your doc is aware of what to look for your odds are greatly increased...

oh... and another things.. you nut...STOP SMOKING, and if a live wan involved along the way...STOP DRINKING!!!!!

Don't invite trouble.

No one can say that. But there are some syndromes, result as cancers. Some of them are result as same type of cancers (for example breast cancers for women, or some colon cancers), some of them result many types of cancers at early ages. But does your family has one of them? These cancers at your father's side can only be a coincidance, or one of these syndromes I told you. These syndromes can be diagnosed by genetic analysis and some other tests, and some of them can avoided or retarded by prophylactic treatment methods. You have to go to a doctor, he/she will make necessary tests, at least you will learn if you have one of these syndromes or not. From here I can just suggest you quit smoking as soon as possible.

Yur boned, dude. You ain't gonna quit. But here's how it plays out--

IMMUNE SYSTEMS become weakened by poor nutrition, lack of exercise and reduced oxygen. Once that happens, our body becomes vulnerable to common STRESSORS. Stressors can be environmental, like viruses, heavy metals, pesticides, food additives, electromagnetic waves or pollution. They can be internal things like emotional or job stress, or poisonous people in our lives. Aging is also a contributing factor. So this means:

WEAK IMMUNE SYSTEM + STRESSORS = DISEASE (cancer, diabetes, heart disease, etc.)

Our bodies have 60 trillion--yes, trillion--cells, and there are always some mutating into cancer cells, but a healthy immune system kills them before they have a chance to get a foothold in the body.

It takes a LONG time, usually, or a high level of stressors, to weaken the immune system to the point where it won't do its job, but once cancer has formed, it will generally spread rapidly.

Jason it is good to be aware of you family history and it should be a concern. I would suggest you make a appt with a oncologist(cancer doctor) and talk the situation over with him/her. You might have to be monitored but the doctor would be the one that would determine that.
Giving up smoking and drinking especially at your age is highly recommended asap especially with your family history.

Remember you must always be proactive with your health it is your life.
Good luck,

See though cancer is in the genes and the probability of getting it is higher if you take lots of natural foods that work against cancer. You search in the yahoo for "foods that cure cancer" and consume all of them as per taste and convinience and you need not worry about cancer. All the best.

Eat right, stop the smoking and moderate the booze, and above all make sure your doctor knows your family history. Know the symptoms and signs and listen to your body. Preventative tests will be your best friend.
