I have just bought a new computer and wanted to install a DVD drive from my old machine. However, when i opened up my new computer, i realised that there is no IDE cable or port - the current drive runs on a SATA cable.
I dont really know much about it at all, but i was wondering if i can get a SATA cable and some kind of adapter so that i can connect my old IDE DVD drive? If not, what else can i do? Surely there must be a way!
I've looked in the computer and cant see a connection for a IDE cable. There is a connection that looks like IDE, but its just a bit too small to fit the cable into it.

but you have to go to your bios and enable SATAROM.
I'm sure there's other products like it out there, just showing you what you need.
Another thing you can do is get a PCI Ultra ATA controller card.

At a local store that'll run you $10-$15 tops.. you don't need top-of the line for an optical drive.
It's hard to believe you don't have an IDE port though. What you're describing is the floppy connector, that's much narrower (less ports). Maybe it's on the side of the board. (Mine's on the side of the motherboard behind my hard disks). Try looking more carefully.

Since you did not give your PC model or Motherboard I had to guess what you have, look at this page. If it's not the correct one, just replace the PC model on top of the page with yours (From the front of your PC)...

Good luck.

It would have been an easy answer if you would have given your Mother Board Model Number or you PC Model No.

People have moved to SATA but there would be atleast one IDE port for connecting the CD/DVD ROM's and Writers's.

Becuase the CD/DVD Drives are still IDE Interface. And i havent seen a SATA CD/DVD Drive yet.

The Smaller IDE Like port you are talking about may be the Mouse Connector.

I am sure you would have a single IDE port somewhere on your mother board.

Else if you want to use your old DVD Drive go to a Computer Shop and buy a USB casing for your DVD Drive.

Connect the Drive in the casing and connect the casing to the USB Port.

I am sure you would have some un used USB Ports.

If you still need help get back to me.
