Just to elaborate on the previous answer, in golf it is called strokes. And that person took 99 strokes to finish the round. Every time the golfer hits the ball, from the tee, from the fairway and every putt, its counted as a stroke.
At the end of the round you add up all the strokes made on each hole and get your total or gross score. In this case it would be 99.
