Lots of muslims want sharia law in the western societies they live in. I believe that if they want that, they should go back to the barbaric places of their ancestors, and do whatever they like to each other.

However, I have an alternative - that is to impose sharia law in Western societies but ONLY for the muslims living there. The normal secular government offering sharia law to a minority who want it - In other words: stoning for adultery and being gay; mutilation of hands and feet for theft; stoning or hanging for many other crimes also. This would ONLY apply to the islamists within the western countries.

Do you think they would still want sharia law then? When they see a western person having no punishment for adultery, while they have death penalty? We have a caution for theft, they have hands and feet cut off? etc etc?

I doubt it.

Forget the alternative, throw the bastards who won't integrate into the water & tell them to swim home. If they want their old laws they can go back to a place that those laws are still used

No, this is wrong.

Don't get me wrong, people can believe whatever they believe. If the Sharia Law applies in an Islamist country then fine - no problem with that.

However. If muslims want Sharia Law in a western society that is wrong, because the western society has it's own laws, rules and culture. It's my firm belief that if you move to a country then you abide by their laws. Governments cannot afford to make exceptions.

If I went to a Muslim country then I would fully expect to abide by their laws, just as they should do if they locate to a western country.

There should always be a seperation of Church and State - the two do not go together.

Edna b where's Hitler when you need him.

All this animosity. The best thing to do is what we are doing now. ignore it. In the so called West the law applies to every citizen regardless of religion. If a priest commits a crime he is not judged by the church but by the state. The church can judge him all she wants but it's the state that enforces its laws. The whole thing is academic. If I cut off the hands of a thief I will be liable for prosecution under the laws of the state sharia or no sharia. The intelligent thing to do but we can't be bothered is to make the same demands in Islamic countries. Christians there are under christian law. Kind of tit for tat. There is an apocryphal story; Saudi Arabia asked Swiss air to take off the cross it has as a symbol(the national flag of Switzerland) because it was offensive to their religious sensitivities. If not they would an Swiss Air from Saudi Arabia. The Swiss responded that they would be happy to oblige if Saudi Airlines removed the two swords(national *** of Saudi Arabia) from its logo as the Swiss found them offensive to their peaceful nature. We love peace and have not been involved in any war for over 600 years and the Swords offend us. As we know the Saudis did not pursue this one any further.

No, there's no reason to turn this place (I'm writing from the US) into a theocracy, even on a small-scale level. We have freedom of religion here, but that doesn't mean you can commit a crime and fall back on "Oh, it's part of my religion." Granted they've allowed some American Indians to have peyote, but I can't imagine dealing with a court case where some guy was clobbered to death, and now they have to try to prove that it was OK because the guy was a Muslim. Come to think of it, I can't imagine that most Muslims living here in the US would want it that way either!

granted i hope it doesn't pass, but personally i think we have become soft on the criminals of this country. they all get a life that is near to luxury when we have people that are homeless, and starving. there are "career criminals" that sit there and commit crime after crime to stay in a system that gives them three meals a day, a shelter over there heads, and time to excersize no matter what they have done. and when they don't get what they want such as t.v. or something else that isn't that dam important we (meaning the general public) have to give it to them or it's inhumane. Now you tell me do you really think turning back the clock on punishment would be so bad. not to the point of stoning, but make the criminals have to earn what they want. put them to work in the crap jobs and such. make them usefull to the system that they messed with.

I love that idea. We could punish the Christians for looking at porn or having abortions too. Secular laws only applying to secular people and religious laws applying to the specific religion. That has got to be one of the best ideas I have heard in a long time. No kidding. People would have to declare at 18 what religion they belong to. It's genius.

Yes, you are right...and I am one of them who want too Sharia Law in the western societies, especially in USA for protection of american women. Because, as per the following statistics women conditions in USA is horrible.

women violence in USA)
FBI statistics in USA show that a woman is beaten in USA every 15 seconds, a woman is raped every 6 minutes, 30 percent of females are murdered by the male partners. One in five women are raped at some point in their life in USA. Once in 16 are victims of domestic violence some day or other. In Massachusetts, the courts issued 60,000 civil restraining orders in 1992 alone.

Of course Muslims are aware of the consequences, or else why would they vote for it? The punishments and bans on certain practices would apply to Muslims only, so why should non-Muslims worry about it?

If limbs or chopped off for stealing, you would see theft would decrease dramatically.

If adulterers were sentenced to death, you would see much less family problems and teen pregnancy.

If alcohol was banned, you would see very much less accidents for driving while drinking and family problems.

But, it doesn't matter to you, does it? You care about your enjoyment more than the society's good.

No. Religious rules/law shouldn't be added to govermental laws. Not only is that getting the church involved in the goverment but lots of non Muslims would use this as an excuse to murder because they can always say "Hey, I'm a Muslim, I'm just doing what my religion tells me to do".

They can stone each other all they want. I'm not obligated to uphold any of their rules or laws and I'll never conform to that kind of thinking. They need to keep those laws out of our goverment.

Nope, I think if they are in a Western Christian country then they should just do what the rest of us do. I don't go over to another country and expect to be treated differently so I don't understand why they do.
