A friend of mine is going to this catholic church a lot and he tells me that he can't miss any days (it's on Saturdays) because he is waiting for a prophecy. Just what in God's green earth is he talking about? I dont want to ask him because chances are, it's some kind of B.S. that is gonna make me laugh.

A prophecy, in the Biblical sense, were messages delivered by God through individuals (prophets). Most of the time, these messages were meant for the prophet's contemporaries. Relatively few prophecies concern the telling of "future" events in the pop culture sense of the word.

Today, now that the Fullness of the Truth has been revealed, a "prophet" is one gifted in their ability to spread the faith either by word of mouth or word in pen. There are no more prophets, in the biblical sense.

I honestly do not know what your friend is talking about when he speaks of "waiting for a prophecy". Perhaps he meant waiting for a lesson in prophecy? I don't know. If he literally means what he said, you are right to be skeptical.

Perhaps he's taking a course about prophecy and doesn't want to miss a session?

Biblical prophecy is when God tells someone what He will do, then that person tells everyone what God said He will do, then He does it. Doesn't mean it happens fast, but eventually it does happen.

Merrian-Webster dictionary defines prophecy as:

Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural -cies also -sies
Etymology: Middle English prophecie, from Anglo-French, from Late Latin prophetia, from Greek prophEteia, from prophEtEs prophet
1 : an inspired utterance of a prophet
2 : the function or vocation of a prophet; specifically : the inspired declaration of divine will and purpose
3 : a prediction of something to come

Prophecy is nothing but foretelling future events. One who prophecies must possess some great powers to look through future. You might have heard about Nosterdemus whose prophecies are world famous and many of them have taken place as predicted by Him. Likewise in Bible several prophesies have been written. We will not be able to deciphor prophecies by merely reading at once. It will be worded in such a way that only a few readers will be able to deciphor those coded words.

Just ask your friend. Be serious and interested in knowing what your friend's believe.

Correct if you have with the Word of God as being your guide.
