The Catholic Church teaches, "The Christian dispensation, therefore, as the new and definitive covenant, will never pass away and we now await no further new public revelation before the glorious manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ (see 1 Tim. 6:14 and Tit. 2:13)." -- Dei Verbum, paragraph 4

A prophecy is a statement that says something will happen at some specified time.

If it doesnt happen they either extend the prophecy's timeline by a couple of centuries or pick up an unrelated event that happened recently and claim that to be the prophecy fulfilment.

I don't know? I know there are prophets of God. That come to church to prophesy, but that's more of a pentocostal church thing not a Catholic Church thing. So I don't really know. Maybe he's talking about the sermon being Prophecy. I really don't know. Why don't you ask him or go with him to see what he's talking about.
