I'm twenty and in college. I'm so shy and I can't get over it. I wasn't this shy before. Guys smile at me all the time but I don't know how to react to that because I don't know if they're interested in me or not. Some help maybe?

There is nothing wrong with you. Being shy is actually very cute and there is no fixed rule to how long one is supposed to be without a boyfriend. Your shyness will tone down with age and maturity, you are still so young. Having said that, it will undoubtedly benefit you social skills greatly if you try to strike conversations with people -they don't always have to be the ones you like- and increase your confidence level. A smile will go a long way, so you can return the favor when someone gives you one. Don't worry so much, it's usually up to the guys to make the first move and show interest, but know that in life you generally must claim the things you want with conviction. I'm the say way as you. I'm 20yrs old and I am very shy but I am working to over come that. I've never really had a girfriend--well i did but that was back in middle school or something lol--but yeah shyness is kinda hard to overcome. Just talk to a lot of people at the gym or at school and just conversate, that helps to build social skills and talk to guys that also builds your confidence. If a guy smiles at you then that means he is interested so just smile back. I have had some instances where girls that i have been interested in smile at me when i look at them but i have always been too shy to approach them for fear of rejection or just shyness if i would have just approached them, who knows i might be going out with them. I'm still tryiing to get over my shyness i hate it cuz its really messing up my social life. but don't worry you are not alone. just like everything else--practice makes perfect. good luck.

Sweetie..you're 20 years old. You're not "supposed" to be in a relationship at any age. Relationship come when the time is right and the person is right for you. If you're single and you're sane consider yourself lucky. I bet you really know who you are what you want so you'll never settle or let someone overcome your good sense. If it's important to you to be in a relationship try stepping outside of your box and being more friendly and outgoing. Guys smile at you because you're cute..but they need a little incentive sometimes to let them know you're really interested instead of being polite. You can simple smile back and wave. They know you noticed them and this can give them inspiration to start a conversation then the sky is the limit.

Some of the guys seem interested?? Pick one. Ask some of your girlfriends if they know him or anything about him. Time your arrival at the cafeteria to coincide with his. Don't just smile back, wave. Is there a bar he likes to go to. Go with a couple of your girlfriends, when you see him, send him a beer, smile and wave when he acknowledges the gift. He'll get the idea you are interested. If he is, he will start asking you out.

hi, i understand how it is being shy. u feel frustrated because you are shy but you feel like you there is nothing you can do about it. im sure your a very nice person and smart as well. there is nothing wrong with you, you will know if they are interested or not. dont ever settle for something that does not feel right. if you can write down all the good qualities that u have and look at it. you need more confidence in you and control. if guys smile at you, then the ball is in your court, just run wit it. in reality, you have nothing to lose. i wish i had the right words to say, but just know i understand wat your going through.

Ok trust me on this one !! If your 20 and female... Those guys that are smiling at you would want to date you. Im really shy myself so i understand what your are saying. Just give the guys a chance to talk to you. They probally dont have the confidence level to talk to you so they dont approach you. Because im so shy i only usually talk to the girls that are very outgoing and approach me...... Also dont let being shy stop you from having fun... it will if you choose to let it. You can choose to have fun and be outgoing or you can choose to be the shy one and not have any fun. Just try to be a little more confident and you will be greatful that you did :) good luck

your scared ... i been there ... and yes ... i have gone years without a relationship. Stop looking for a relationship! When the right guys is there you will feel it. you will like him and he will like you. You may even go through many more before you find the right one but he is out there. Take it from an old fool.
You are still young. There is still plenty of time. Just live life. I promise you mr. right will come along when it is time for him to!

no i don't think there is anything wrong with you sweety.... and when i was your age i too was very shy but i have never been without a girlfriend or wife for any more than 6 months... and thats because i was locked up in the county jail... hehehe.... anyway... you just need someone to build up your self esteem a bit and you would be fine....so email me and we will get you started in the right direction...

yeah most of those guys are probably interested, they are shy too probably, it is hard for a shy guy to approach a shy girl, it sorta multiplies itself, that has been my experience... you have to find some guy friends you are comfortable with and then it can get easier and then maybe even one of those friendships will turn into something and if not then at least you build up your comfort with guys and stuff... good luck to you
