Do cats' temperaments change based on their breed like it does with dogs? Is there a breed of cat that's more friendly than another?

some breeds are more inclined to have a friendly nature (generally speaking) but more often than not, it comes down to the individual cat, as well as how it is raised from kittenhood.

Well cats haven't really been bred to extremes like the dogs so most of them share similar characterisitcs. I'd say all cats are 'friendly' but some breeds are more vocal and more out going than others. Breeds like the Burmese and the Siamese for example love being in the centre of attention and need lots of love and affection. They follow their owners around all day and want to 'help out' all the time. Other cats like the British shorthair are more independent and prefer short periods of cuddling each day.. As a general rule, the Asian type cats are more vocal and affectionate. The European types are more 'aloof' and independent.

Siamese and Manx cats are generally more temper mental a good 'ole stray has always worked for me. If you get them young you can train a cat to your way of life. Female's are more apt to be moody if they are not fixed young. I personally have a short haired tiger stripe female, fixed when she was 6 months. Rescued her from a cab stand and she has been the best cat. So very sweet. Maybe it's because they appreciate a good home too. Good Luck on whatever you might choose.

I have a Manx cat and he is very even-tempered and laid back, mellow--not tempermental at all. Manx cats are friendly and affectionate without being overbearing. My cat follows me around and even has a certain call when he is looking for me. When he is play-fighting with my other cats, he usually doesn't make any noise; the other cats make all the noises. He doesn't hiss or growl. I love my Manx cat!
