By tradition Jews face towards the east to Jerusalem in response to Psalm 137...

5 If I forget you, O Jerusalem,
May my right hand forget her skill.
6 May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth
If I do not remember you,
If I do not exalt Jerusalem above my chief joy.

So, in prayer, one can face east in order to remember Jerusalem. Or instead of a worldly direction, if you'd like to have a good direction to face, try up. Simply tilt your head back and with your arms, raise your gaze to the heavens and let loose your prayers that way.

Shalom!

A person who has a real relationship with Yahweh, Jehovah, Jesus Christ, or any other name for God, should understand that the REAL God is all around us. Therefore, the direction you face is not a very important issue.
The only thing I can say for sure is that in the Old Testament, God caused King Solomon's Temple to have the Holy of Holies in the WEST part of the temple, because God knew that there was a lot of sun worshipping going on & that was definitely NOT OK in God's books. Sun worshippers faced East when praying, etc.
This point about King Solomon's Temple is VERY IMPORTANT to understand about the lies that are communicated to members of Freemasonry.-- The members are told that the lodge of Freemasonry should have the Worshipful Master's station in the east part of the lodge room, as Masons say, because that is how King Solomon's Temple was set up.
But as I have already stated, that statement is a lie, because the Holy of Holies was in the WEST part of the temple.

I think you face East towards the kotel (wailing wall).

A funny story I heard once was about the Israeli soldiers who originally took back Jerusalem in the 60's and ended up on the temple mount. They still faced East even though they were inside the temple mount.

If you were truly Jewish you would have no such confusion.

The truth is - it doesn't matter which way you face, praying isn't like tuning in a satellite dish, or TV aerial - if your religion understood existence and the relationship between The Creator and created, it would not have so many meaningless customs...

Look up to the Lord Jesus, He's always looking down at you!! I hope you are a Messianic Jew who realizes Jesus died on the cross for your sins. Don't miss out on Salvation just because other Jews or people in your life are still waiting for the Messiah. Read Revelation. You are God's chosen people-- Wow! The Tribulation period is a time of Jacob's Trouble, a time of 7 yrs when God deals mainly with the Jews who rejected Him. If you are Messianic, you will understand what I mean. Continue to ask questions or talk with a Messianic Jew if you are not. Jesus will enlighten you if you will ask Him into your heart!!
