when you see the design that is best for You
You will KNOW IT!!
If you dont feel a connection to any one design
then wait until you Do.
and for goodness sakes
please DONT get any symbols that you cant verify the meaning of
it could prove very embarrassing if you ever go to the orient and you have something that Actually says
that you are a flying dragons Idiot!!
lol
and another mistake to beware of is Spelling
consult the dictionary BEFORE allowing words to be put on you.
I saw a girls beautiful tattoo of cherries with the word
"Delicous" emblazoned underneath

I feel moved to throw in that, these days, to set yourself apart from the herd the choice would seem to be NOT to have tattoos lol... But I can also see that I myself may not, probably would certainly not, have listened to that advice at eighteen.
When you suggest basing it on your music, it's unclear what you mean. If you mean that music is a great passion of yours then, certainly, it's a subject worthy of being worn and carried through out the rest of your life. If, however, you were thinking along the lines of a specific band, or genre or recording artist I would urge you to reconsider.
Life is long and wether, at eighteen, you can fathom the significance of this or not, you will evolve in so many ways beyond the person you are at present. Tastes change, and asthetics alone can proove to be quite empty down the track if there is nothing of value behind them.
So my advice to you is firstly to consider whether you feel that you know yourself well enough to choose totems at this point in your life. And secondly, if the answer is yes, choose well based on whatever it is that fires you or has meaning to you from a lifetime creed perspective.
Jesus, I sound so old :(

I wouldn't go into a shop and pick a flash design...if you can think of something with enough significance to you, design one yourself and get a custom tattoo! It can represent any aspects about you or your life - or things that are important to you. The possibilities are endless.
BUT - don't just get a tattoo to get a tattoo...if you genuinely don't know what you want then you're not ready to get one yet...nothing wrong with waiting until the right thing...

until you know exactly what you want you shouldn't get one. you should look at some websites that have tattoos (ratemyink.com is my favorite) and you can see what you like and don't like. i would suggest getting something that has meaning to you and not just get something that looks cool or neat. you will enjoy your tattoo for a long time if you have something that is related to your life in some way.

Why don't you choose from a book of 'stick-ons' first?
Perhaps wisely then the mood will leave you.
Think of what you are saying - there is nothing your absolutely want, and any choice is permanent - at 18, you could change your mind at any time and then be disappointed with your permanent choice...just to have a tatoo.
THINK!

If you don't know what tattoo to get, then don't get one. You will regret it later.
Check out artists' work to get some ideas, but don't go get one until you know exactly what you want.

you can make it original and base it on your music or a typical first guy tattoo is a bold black tribal tattoo. then eventually you can turn it into a full sleeve
