as was stated it depends on the breed. Smaller dogs tend to not be protective.

Most dogs usually bark when a stranger is coming...some more than others. You really have to train and hone their natural ability if you truly want a "guard dog".

I once had a dog that would bark when strangers would come to the door but once inside she'd just flop over on her back for a belly rub...I always thought... what if that was a robber??
