Running is a good exercise to burn calories. You have to keep in mind that, like any other exercise, a gradual and regular work out ( running or brisk walking ) will surely bring down your weight.
To burn 1000 calories a normal regular running exercise of 25-40 minutes for at least 10 days will be enough. You have to watch your food habit also. Eat low calorie food, lots of veggies and plenty of water for the next 2 to 4 months together with half an hour running or brisk walking, which will surely reduce 10 or more pounds of your body weight and remember not to depend on any magical ways to reduce the weight faster.

running burns calories but how much depends on how fast and how long you do it.
I burnt off 100 calories a day by walking at 5 at 16 incline on the treadmill.
Just don't wear yourself out too much excerise is good start with 15 mins a day and increase every 3 week by 15 more mins
Eating the right food is the other half of the deal
